Dexterous Manipulation

Skilled hands and two-armed manipulation for contact-rich tasks and tool use.

Dexterous manipulation is the use of multi-fingered hands and two arms to reposition, reorient and use objects with fine control.

Contact between many fingers and an object is hard to model and sense. Policies must handle contact switching, slipping and partial observability.

Dexterity is what lets robots use human tools and handle household and industrial objects.
